Frequently Asked Questions about Manualism.

  • Can anyone make hand farts?
Anyone who can clasp their hands together and squeeze can produce hand farts. Some may have no problem doing so, while others will need to practice first in order to even hear air passing through the palms.
  • Can anyone play tunes with their hands?
Virtually anyone should be able to play tunes with their hands. The only reason however why there is only a handful, no pun intended, of people out there who do play tunes is because it requires countless hours of practice for one to be able to do so. Most people don't get past the point of making unrefined sounds because they do not practice.
  • Are my hands too big or small to make music?
Just as people come in all sorts of sizes and shapes, so do hands. This does not mean that some are able to squeeze noise out of their hands while others aren't. All this means is that different people will produce different pitches. This is actually beneficial to the world of manualism. As more people pursue this highly elusive art form, manualists sporting whole range of pitches can be assembled to form a very robust and colorful hand choir.
  • Is squeezing one's hands together bad for the hands?
Just as with any activity, overexertion and poor nutrition can lead to drawbacks. Just as God rested on the 7th day and enjoyed his handiwork, so must an aspiring manualist rest the palms and enjoy listening to the music he recorded the previous 6 days.
  • Does exercise help with the music?
It sure does. Stronger hands can not only lead to better endurance when playing a piece of music but it also can help improve one's pitch.
  • What finger exercises are recommended to strengthen the hands?
I do not recommend any finger exercises for the hands. To strengthen one's hands I recommend working out the arms instead.
  • What are some good nutritional foods to help the muscles and ligaments?
I recommend foods high in magnesium, such as bananas, avocados, and sesame seeds.
